Purchase wildlife habitat & Build rewilding partnerships

Home Featured Projects Purchase wildlife habitat & Build rewilding partnerships

DESPITE OF BEING USED FOR SHEEP FARMING FOR WOOL PRODUCTION SINCE THE END OF THE XIX CENTURY -LIKE MOST OF PATAGONIA´S LAND- NOT ALL THE EXTENSION OF PENÍNSULA VALDÉS IS IN THE SAME SITUATION NOWADAYS. TODAY PRACTICALLY ALL THE LANDOWNERS LIVE IN THE CITY, MANY OF THEM STILL ARE IN THE WOOL BUSINESS BUT, FOR DIFFERENT REASONS, SOME HAVE REDUCED THEIR HERDS AND ARE NOT USING THE WHOLE PROPERTY FOR GRAZING. FINALLY, THERE ARE SOME OTHERS THAT DIRECTLY DO NOT FOLLOW WITH THIS ICONIC ACTIVITY OF PATAGONIA AND HAVE DIFFERENT PROFESSIONS OR BUSINESSES OUTSIDE THE AREA.

Buying land for conservation and building alliances with landowners for rewilding entire ranches -or some areas within them- that are not longer being used for sheep grazing are one of CPV´s most ambitious goals.

Getting funds will allow us to purchase wildlife habitat to secure a higher degree of protection for the area and to build a private land conservation program to deliver technical and financial assistance to landowners who voluntarily restore and maintain habitat for the wildlife.

A long time ago, in most of the properties the ranchers used to raise cattle as well, for this reason many of the fences are quite high and have barb wire on top.

But today practically does not happen anymore and such kind of fences are not necessary for the sheep.

Removing them, or lowering the height where sheep farming is still carried out, is one of the actions that can help to restore natural wildlife corridors and allow native animals to move freely between different areas.
